Insect Killers

July 19th, 2010 by ash

Insect killers are the type of thing you see hanging up in homes, restaurant kitchens, supermarket meat and fish counters, butchers – anywhere where it’s desirable to keep flying pests away.

Insect killers generally work by having something to attract the insect (fly, mosquito, moth etc.), and something to destroy it once it comes close. The most common is the blacklight / ultraviolet bulb surrounded by an electrified metal grid. Flying, light sensitive insects like flies are drawn towards the light and then frazzled by the grid. These kinds of bug zappers usually have a removable tray that can easily dispose of the bodies. You can see these insect killers in commercial premises like fishmongers, butchers, restaurant kitchens, and any other food preparation areas.

There are other kinds of insect killers available, from miniature versions of the above to those that don’t use any kind of electrified grid that may be more suitable for use around the home. These can also be useful for smaller flying insects like mosquitoes and midges.

Some versions have a light that attracts the insects, and a sticky pad that captures them when they arrive, doing away with the need for potentially dangerous live grids. Ideal for kids’ bedrooms or around the home. There are even novelty fly and insect zappers, for example ones that are shaped like tennis rackets where the strings are live electric wires that instantly zap any flying bug.

If you want a quick and reliable way to take care of any kind of flying insect, whether it’s a mosquito, fly, moth, midge or a wasp, these are worthwhile investments. Suitable for home, office and commercial premises, grab one now and say goodbye to flying pests.
